More details on new Evangelion project

REI!!!
Either no one has bothered to blog about it or I didn’t look hard enough. So anyway, the latest issue of Newtype has a whole bunch of juicy titbits on the new Evangelion movies starting next year.
Click on to find out…
If you haven’t heard about the new Evangelion project before this, basically it’s a total of four new movies, with the first movie coming out next year.
I’ll just listen them out in the order they are mentioned in the magazine.
It’s going to be crazy. Crazy like the Eva that we love and hate. Apparently, Mr. Anno is working full steam. He’s happy that he can finally recreate Eva “as he wanted it to be”, because he’s no longer limited by the technology of 12 years ago, ergo lots of 3D CG this time. In fact, it’s so crazy that you will need to watch the first movie at least 3 times to “get” it. (Or so they say.)
The planning for the first movie has already been completed and it has entered the drawing phase and Mr. Hideaki Anno is working on the script for the second movie. The staff remains more or less the same as the TV series.
The first movie will revolve around the events covered in episode 6 of the TV series, basically Operation Yashima where Eva-01 takes down the angel with a positron rifle. That episode did not turn out the way Mr. Anno wanted it to, due to last-decade technical limitations, and he wants to make it right this time. Operation Yashima will be the climax of the first movie. Mr. Shinji Higuchi, the director of Sinking of Japan, will be in-charge of the Yashima portions of the movie.
NEW characters will be appearing in the second movie. (Please let it be Mana Kirishima!!!)
Although the uniform designs will remain unchanged, the NERV and SEELE logos will be changed. The NERV logo will be based on a bitten apple, while the new SEELE logo will be an apple with a serpent coiled around it. The new logos are references to the original sin as told by the Bible. Apparently, this reference may be paralleled by the movies’ story at some point.
It sounds to me that the first movie will be at least a partial remake and the second movie will branch off to a new story with new characters. I guess you can call it a parallel Eva universe?
As a fanboy, I can’t wait to see Eva with modern graphics. :3
P.S. Mana is the hawtest Eva girl. She deserves screen time!!!

MANA!!!

Was the irony intentional? Mmmmmm…
Morris, please read the entry again. This time with your eyes open. kthx.
And as for Mana Kirishima, I’ll say it again: She’s the hawtest Eva girl. :3

What’s so cool about Kirishima Mana is that she’s pretty much a perfect combination of Asuka & Rei,which makes a great deal of sense in terms of compatibility with Shinji-kun.
I love that producer, Ohtsuki has stated that the current anime climate is rife with overplayed otaku junk as a result of EVA’s success. I also love that a big motivating factor toward making these is one of rejection of this current philosophy…After all..the original series was created as a rejection of anime cliches in the 90s.
Full-circle…I like that.

Whoever is an Eva fan and did not enjoy the movie in the least is a crackpot. And I am sickened to hear that CG will be involved unless it will used to simply clean up animation shots somewhat. Any battles done in CG that turn out looking like *dare I say Vandread?* will ultimately ruin the anime we have all come to love. How it was done originally is something that keeps my memories of it nostalgic. Sure it wasn’t the best animation and I’ll be damned if the budget wasn’t large enough to fit such a great story, but it kept us all on the edge of our seats wanting more and when it finally ended with the two already existing movies we were all wiping the slobber from our faces as the credits began to roll. This is a timeless anime, with amazing characters, great musical compilations and unforgettable battle scenes. Let’s hope that these movies only add to this classic series and does not destroy it the same way George Lucas has destroyed his own with over the top special effects and horrible new characters. . . . .

I couldn’t agree more with Adamantium_Jedi. Except for one thing, alot of anime now doesn’t compare to the animation in Evangelion. The traditional animation of Evangelion is beautiful and I feel CG has damaged the majority of the animes it is put into now a days. It is used as a shortcut moreso than an improvement over traditional animation.
I have very low expectations for these films. Evangelion is known by all true anime fans as a classic; it is timeless. Those films and series which are timeless should never be changed, ever. I’ll go see these films without a doubt and maybe they will be good, but Anno better seriously put his heart and soul into this just as he did with the original Eva. This can’t be a milking of a franchise, this has to be what Eva was; a personal piece.
Anno… please don’t screw this up.

Oh yeah
I can’t wait it! I’am sure that Anno will do it again.

wow, how can they do this…
CGI is FUKing PATHETIC, i swear i try watch an anime, the second i see cgi, i lost about 75% respect of it,
how can u have cartoon then boom CGI it looks so shit and unrealistic,
sigh… i think eva’s reputation is gonna go down the drain..
ANNO i respected you, but “how i wanted it to be” gee i lost faith now,
also i feel like crying,
and misato= owns rei/asuka/mana

Well.As for the CG..I believe this is the least of our worries.(The CGI work in Top Wo Nerae 2! Was wonderful, and still within the confines of what would make a GAINAX series worth it’s weight. It’s never distracting, and only serves the story.)
While I agree that it was the limits that set EVA apart from most series…It was also one of the most debilitating parts of the series. Many sources have said that Anno and crew had created themselves into a terible corner, and had no choice to end it the way they did.-And without that,it would probably just become another anime finale slug-fest.They made a wonderfully complex and exciting series into a disturbing character study by the end.
I’m of the belief that these films will represent the flip side to that. And I’m hopeful that it’ll show us an alternate vision without restraints of any kind. How this is to translate to us is anybody’s guess..But it is very important to know that this is much more Tsurumaki’s show now than Anno’s.
And they have very differing world views for teacher and protege.
Compare EVA to FLCL,and you may be surprised to see that they are essentially saying the same things…albeit in very different ways.
This is how I’ll approach these new films..With an open heart and mind.Anno’s Evangelion is one for the books.Nothing will change this. Now to see where the characters will take us next.

I think one of the funniest things about these arguments is that, by default, everyone who enjoyed Eva is biased in some way. People who argue that a remake will destroy the original Eva are making a laughable argument. Unless all of the available NGE tapes, DvDs, and digital downloads are somehow magically erased come the release of these films, there will be no change to the original series.
If you don’t care for the new films, simply don’t watch them.
And on that note, if you expect these films to be the same as the original series, then you’re wasting your time and breath. Of course they’re going to be different to some extent- otherwise what would be the point of remaking them? Again, refer to my first paragraph- if you want to see the original Eva series in all its glory, go watch the original series.
Now, if you’re arguing that these might be BETTER then the original series, that’s a ridiculous argument to make as well. They will simply be DIFFERENT- there is no universal judge which mandates that one series is better than another. It whittles down to personal preference and subjective enjoyment. Leave the arguing to politicians and keep an open mind.

I think ur absolutly right Matt, but to say dont watch the new movies is kinda hard even for the ones who r saying “dont make the new movies” i mean every Eva loving fan is goin to watch it. I personally have nothing against the new movies i think they are goin to be fun.
I just hope its not to diffrent. >·

This Is For SoulRuuku.
Unfortunatly there will not be a live action movie. The clips that you may or may not of seen are only the results of some talented people making spoofs using Clips from different films and games.
Sorry to crush any hopes for the film that will NOT come about.

Well My hopes are kinda crushed but any way im looking forward to the animes then. XD
