Konata’s Fanart
Please watch Lucky Star episode 8 before reading this entry.
Remember how Konata was being so proud of the fact that her fanart submission was published in Newtype? Well I browsed through the latest issue in Kinokuniya today and indeed it was there! I took a picture of it secretly with my compact digital camera when no one was looking. Just like downloading fansubs and jaywalking, it’s okay as long as you don’t get caught.
By the way it’s the drawing on the right depicting Akira. Apparently Konata is an Akira fan. So cool. The accompanying text basically says that this submission is a message of support of Akira-sama and also, as a side note, includes a small plead for Shirashi-kun to be given better treatment.
Kyo-ani are cool people.

The somewhat viral advertising in Hayate no Gotoku is more funny IMO

People seem to be angry that there’s all this advertisement for Newtype and such, but I’d rather see Konata read Newtype everyday than some made up magazine. I think part of the appeal of Lucky Star is seeing day to day happenings through the lens of Konata and crew. Konata is an otaku. Can’t blame her for waving Newtype everywhere. Is it advertising? Of course. Is it a bad thing? No.
Reading over Kaioshin Sama’s comment again, I don’t really see why he’s so up in arms.. Defensive because people are getting to excited/enjoying this ‘easter egg’ too much, and not appreciating other types of creative advertisement?

I guess this is what you call, “opportunistic capitalism” for the “collective market”. XD

Any one know what issue this is. June Issue? I would really like to know I want to import it. Thanks!

Yes, it’s from the June issue.

Aww~ It’s really cute and bears the essence of Konata’s drawing style (faintly recalls that Konata cannot draw for nuts)… Akira-san! kyaaa-
Despite the moe element in this anime, it seems that people who do not watch a large amount of anime (read: some of my friends) are unable to understand Lucky Star. They end up wondering why it’s so random, and lose interest in it after watching an episode or two. I for one, think that Lucky Star is one of the most interesting anime I’ve seen this year, for the fact that they expose (or rather, mention) a lot of anime/manga/games industry issues/facts! I like that :X
*wonders if I should get Lucky Star books 1 and 2 in Chinese from Kino*… It’s too complex for my not-very-Chinese mind to handle X_X; (The language, i mean. I would take like, a few minutes to finish reading 4 panels, i think.)
Woo. Did i go offtopic. X_X;

Wait, the sell Lucky Star manga in Kino? where?
The amazing thing about Lucky Star, to me, is that it’s an anime ABOUT animes. Inside every one of us, we see a Konata: the otaku who always spends too much on their passion, immersing themselves in a world that everyone else deems as “nerdy”, and loving every second of it.
Lucky Star connected with me because I can not only connect with Konata, but also because I can connect with the references. There’s a certain magical feeling to watch our favourite anime featured in another anime.
Mroeover, another aspect of Lucky Star is the very witty dialogue and utterly random scenes and discussion: it’s like The Simpsons of the Japanese anime in that sense.
All that and MOE.
