Lucky Star Licensed
Uh, what? Okay, so Kadokawa USA decided to skip the pre-license tease and get straight to the announcement this time. The R1 release of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Vol.4 contained a short translated clip from Lucky Star episode 16.

I haven’t received my Haruhi Vol.4 DVD yet, so I don’t know if there’s anything else in there. But long story short, Lucky Star is licensed. Video embedded after the break.
Actually, I wonder how well Lucky Star will fare… It’s definitely not Haruhi’s kind of awe-inspiring existential sci-fi high school moé adventure, and the otaku jokes get quite hardcore on some occasions. How many anime fans in America have actually heard of Animate’s tenchou?
And slightly off-topic, I really hate what Bandai did to the limited edition R1 releases for Haruhi. The DVDs come with way too much useless crap and the thin cardboard box feels cheap. I would gladly do without the Haruhi hair ribbon and other miscellaneous trinkets in exchange for cooler-looking and more durable DVD packagings. I still bought them anyway but that’s only because I’m an idiot. Oh well.

i got all the LE DVDs for the original Broadcast order except for the first one which did not contain an additional DVD.
And heck Lucky Star is a must buy. I just can’t miss Montekke Serra Fuku on my 42 inch plasma.
Wonder whether there will be LEs for Lucky Star…
This also means that all the Lucky Star soundtracks shud be getting licensed in English, so its probably a good idea to hold off purchasing them for now.

Well, the idea was more that those cardboard boxes weren’t meant to be where the DVDs were kept… the box that the first volume came with is for the storage of all the DVDs. But… yeah, I get what you mean, especially since I just leave them in those flimsy boxes as well.
While its predictable that they used the scene, I can’t help but think thats misadvertising… it makes it seem like Lucky Star is some kind of Haruhi spin off or something. Which it obviously isn’t.

I think it might do quite well. I mean, *that* scene was the real reason why I started watching Lucky Star anyway :D It would probably get enough curious Haruhiist to make it popular.
