Comiket 75 – Loot

Comiket 75
Useless pieces of paper and plastic

I’m finally back in Singapore. It’s really hot even in my air-conditioned room. Gah. But anyway, here’s my damage report for Comiket 75. I didn’t buy much. Really.

Basically I had only three things on my wishlist for Comiket: Heart Work, Afterschool of the 5th Year (5年目の放課後), and T2 ART WORKS.

Coincidentally, the three circles have their booths on different days, so I ended up queuing for one item a day, a rather relaxed and stress-free arrangement that meant that I did not have to do any overnight queuing or prior planning.

5年目の放課後

Day 1 was Gonenme no Houkago (or as the circle translates it “Afterschool of the 5th Year”). It is a relatively obscure circle probably best known online for its drunken Haruhi illustration. I wrote a post on 5年目の放課後 before.

Their C75 release information can be found on the blog. It’s basically a coloured illustration book, a monochrome ero-sketch book, and a mini poster.

Heart Work

Day 2’s queuing was for Heart Work, Hiro Suzuhira‘s one-person doujin publication. It is a compilation of her recent illustrations and sketches.

She is probably best known for her character designs in various Navel games such as Shuffle! (Asa, Nerine, Sage) and Soul Link. She often collaborates with her good friend Aoi Nishimata, whose doujin publication is called JOKER TYPE and who designed the other half of the Shuffle! cast (the crappier half that includes Kaede).

Incidentally, the illustrations found in the recently-desecrated Akikan! novel series are among some of Hiro’s older works. They still look better than the anime.

T2 ART WORKS

The final day of Comiket brought T2 ART WORKS, the awesome release from Tony Taka. His latest release (NSFW) is Clannad-centric with a fulfilling dosage of Tomoyo, hands down the best character in an otherwise overrated generic Key franchise. *Ducks for cover*

Tony is probably one of the most successful doujin artists and runs a rather commercialized operation. Personally, I don’t really care about the distinctions between indie and mainstream as long as the art/song is good, but a direct result of Tony’s popularity is that his releases are more costly than most.

Back and front covers of the doujinshi (NSFW but too late)

He also sells his own product sets that change in design every Comiket but are generally the same things. I bought them last year too.

Comiket 75
Goodie bag content

In fact, these Comiket-exclusive goods are basically the only reason why you would want to queue for T2. The doujinshi itself is always available brand new from any Toranoana outlet, albeit for 50 yen more due to tax. In fact, I picked up his C74 release (Macross F) at the Akihabara branch. The goodie bags on the other hand can only be found in collector stores at jacked up prices after the event.

Others

Those were my planned purchases. Now for the rest of the random splurges that are the natural consequences of wandering around the Comiket event halls filled with shiny stuff.

Comiket 75
My only purchases from the commercial booths

Comiket 75
And some other stuff I won’t go into details about… *cough*

And finally, what might arguably be my most awesome Comiket purchase ever…

Comiket 75
IKINOKORITAI!!!

P.S. I have multiple copies of T2 and Heart Work releases… (When you’ve already queued for 2 hours, you might as well.) I wonder what I should do with them.

Long time lurker at your blog, but your PS just made me get off my butt to post.

If you’re not reserving those extra T2 and Suzuhira Hiro sets for anyone special, how much do you want for one copy of each? XD Big fan of both of them, especially SuzuHiro, but T2 tipped the scales this time by featuring Tomoyo.

I really wanted to get a copy of T2’s set, but the prices on YHJ are just scary.

GAR Macross F girls made me LOL. Hard. XD I can recognise Ranka, and I presume the other is Sheryl Nome, but methinks the hair for Sheryl’s a bit too orange in that cover. Still hilarious either way. XD

I was waiting to see if you had died or something

  3. darkone says:

Omg. U are finally back. Got a really nice loot there. Its like damn lucky for you to go Japan. How i wish i was there. :( Would really like to get the T2’s set. Tomoyo!!! Calendar and file is really nice too. 0_o. Please…

  4. TP says:

    Lol @ this picture.

I’m going to risk being a prick, but why is Tony Taka’s works such a huge draw, considering he’s just painting an otherwise non-ecchi series into a erodoujin adaptation? It looks Greek to me. (FYI it’s an inside joke.)

Other than that, your spending this year is very conservative, I have to agree. (IcanhasyourT2andHeartWorkskthxbai.)

  5. Animeking says:

o_o Wow…I don’t know what to say to the last doujin on the list…I think several internal organs bursted from laughter…

  6. V_Dummy says:

Should alter fate, should go and live/work in Japan and thus be constantly in reach of future comikets…

Btw… they are muscular with hair on Sheryl’s legs!! If only they actually replaced the real female figures… lol

  7. Raymond O.taku Ting says:

if and only if i hav a chance…
i’m sure i’ll get to know you somewhat…lol
my dying wish is to go japan’s comiket once in my lifetime…
    but i think i’ll hav my “studies-road” set on s’pore 1st…
all i can do now is get myself some good results and get my ass off this hell place…( but its quite well too )
i think i’ll go there with you next time… XD

  8. Deathy says:

Gotta try to find the virtual copies of “Afterschool of the 5th Year” books.

And I so do (not) want the Hokuto no Ken x Macross parody! I’m laughing to hard to keep commenting.

  9. Rakugakid says:

I wanted to go to Japan last year too for C75 but I dropped the idea due to the lack of funds. I got the T2 C74 release from some shop in Hong Kong sometime in September so maybe I will go there and snoop around sometime this year.

  10. omo says:

    Nice pickup there.

I think if I ever hit Comiket I might do exactly the same as you did.

  11. Fate says:

Make an auction on the T2 and Heart Work. The highest bidder will get it.

  12. andreas says:

Damn i should go to singapore…i could use “really hot” right now, it’s fucking -13°C out there (and i mostly work outside).
For a Comiket visit that looks like little loot :P

Nice stuff anyways….should haul my ass to japan someday too. It’s just kinda far…

  13. Zeroblade says:

Well, seeing as they’re just useless pieces of plastic and paper, I’d be glad to take them off your hands. Yes, including ManRanka

  14. Leefe says:

I’ll gladly buy the T2 and Heartwork releases from you =D

Shit I seriously need to unsee that last pic… my eyes. Yeargh.

  15. joshua says:

    your back home!
plz tell me this means you review the latest Gundam 00 that come back out now,
    i love your reviews,
p.s your blog carp without anime reviews

  16. Rin says:

YOU GOT T2 and Kyonko doujin!!!!!!!!!
    I WANT THEM!!!!!!
Looks like I have to wait for another 6 month until I get my hands on T2 new doujin at Comiket 76…

  17. Tim says:

    Hi,
If you decide to sell the extra doujins, please let me know how much you are interested in selling them for.

    Cheers.

  18. Actar says:

Wooh! You managed to smuggle in Doujinshi. This means that I’ll be able to do the same next year when I set off on my pilgrimage to Japan after my A’s. Just like yourself.

  19. Kit says:

I hope I can go~ Once I have the money to fly over to Tokyo…

    As well as knowing Japanese…

  20. DarkMirage says:

After sorting things out, I have one T2 goods set and one copy of T2’s new release left. I’ll probably be selling or otherwise getting rid of them together as a bundle.

I will be making another post on this once I’ve thought through the best way to go about doing it.

Actar: It’s not difficult… No one in Singapore actually opens up your luggage when you enter the country. Even if they did they wouldn’t care to pay attention to a stack of books.

  21. manga says:

    Hm. T2 doujin…

All depends on what you want to charge for it and available payment methods, but I´m interested in it. Along with the goodiebag if I understood everything correct.

I´ll have to check back a bit more regulary than usual then. To find that post.

  22. ETERNAL says:

Suzuhira Hiro? Do want. And with a drawing of Chihiro too~

  23. Random Person says:

Wow you brought so much cool stuff. I wish I could go to Japan and buy T2 stuff.

  24. cshard says:

If it’s a choice between the T2 Goods set or the Suzuhira Hiro Heartworks set, I’d rather get the T2 set. Of course if you want to sell them as a set, I’d gladly buy both.

Any chance if you can indicate how you’ll be selling the items off here? (via auction, etc, etc) If not I guess I’ll wait for your posting on the matter.

  25. Avenger says:

Much love for the T2 artwork, I bought that too =3

  26. Kevin Takeda says:

    Gotta love those Doujinshi!!!
Man Im pissed… I just saw the new ending theme of Gundam 00 s2, and all of the Gundams are destroyed… NOOOOO!!

  27. T1 says:

    Heh, good taste ;)
I’d go for T2 and then for Hiro too >.> cuz T2 is god who knows how to make his girls and Hiro is a goddess who knows one or two things about cuteness too XD

What surprises me is that you were able to got a hold on yourself >.> I’d probably have gotten a lot more around and bought everything that would make me go *.*
Was the money the problem (well you did buy more than one copy of T2 and Hiro)or are the queues that long so you can’t get around to buy that much?
