Animatrix

I watched the Animatrix yesterday, all 9 episodes of them and I have to say: they were better than the movie…

For those of you who don’t know, The Animatrix is a series of short films done by anime artists from USA, Japan and Korea. Around 4 or 5 of them were written by the brothers themselves (directors of the Matrix)

2 of them were linked directly to Matrix Reloaded with another 2 being the history of the Matrix. (how humans ended up in the matrix) The rest were wistful thinking of “What if?”s in the Matrix itself. (hint: one of them is called World Record)

A tinsie winsie bit of spoiler:

In the Matrix Reloaded, we heard of a ship warning Zion about the incoming Sentinel forces. The ship was referred to as Osiris but nowhere else in the movie did we get to see anymore of it. Well one of the films is called “Final Flight of Osiris” and it showed the final moments where the crew desperately holded off thousands of Sentinel to send a message to Zion. I think you call guess why the name is “Final Flight”.

Also in the movie, there’s a college-aged boy who says that Neo is his “savior” even though he was not in the first movie. Well in “Kid’s Story” we get to see how Neo “rescued” him from the Matrix.(Neo insisted that the boy rescued himself)

Warning: HEAVY Spoilers ahead:

And my favourite of the 9 short films: The Second Renaissance part 1 and 2. In part one we see how humans mistreated robots, leading to the eventual creation of 01, (Zero One) the robot city/country. In part two, we see how humans, instead of working together peacefully with robots due to their mindset that robots are tools made to serve man, waged a war on them. And the eventual surrender of the entire human world. The world leaders signed an agreement with the robot (hehe, the robot signed with a barcode) in the matrix and with a huge explosion, everyone in the matrix lost their memory (with new ones given by the robots) and started life in the matrix.

All in all the collection gets a 8.5/10
