Ahhh…yet another comic turned movie by Marvel. They seem to be trying a new style this time. The screen is frequently divided into multiple segments showing each character’s face/different camera angle of a scene and it does a good job of story compression. (it looks like comic panels)
Anyway the story is good, (again somewhat changed from the comics, like Spiderman and X-men) it had deep character developements and the only bad thing was the CG. The animations look waaaaay too fake, especially the green giant himself. The ending had many people confused as it was not as straight forward as in X-men. (hint: use your brain please) I guess Hulk was not bad, but I don’t think I’ll be seeing it again.
[warning: light spoilers ahead]
One thing very very very dumb about the whole thing is this: the General-type guy (Banner’s girlfriend’s daddy) had emergency control of the whole United States Armed Forces (given to him by the president himself) when Hulk managed to escape from the HUGE underground military facility. (reminds me of NERV, except with less open space and giant mechas and asian people) Now I don’t know about you, but if I had control of the whole god damn country’s defences, and I want to destroy a monster that is practically invincible, I WILL USE TACTICAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS, or at least EVERY SINGLE BOMBER IN THE COUNTRY AND EVERY LAST POUND OF EXPLOSIVE or even EVERY CRUISE MISSILE.
But noooo, the strategic genius of a general use FOUR cute little tanks, (got torned apart the first) FOUR (or was it THREE?!?!?) Commanches, (with pathetic missiles and chainguns) and I think altogether TWO F-14 Tomcats…and they didn’t even had nukes. OMG I can really see why USA is the world superpower, or maybe the studio is too POOR to make a bigger set and get more props. The Hulk of course, smashed everything. (2 commanches and the F-14s got away)
Ok, other than that the movie’s cool. But why oh why didn’t they use NUKES??? The secret facility was in the middle of nowhere. Hulk was in a huge desert FAR AWAY from urban areas. The general had control of the entire US Armed Forces. He is shooting to kill. He is desperate to kill Hulk before he reaches a city. USA has a few thousand nukes and a hell lot more conventional and biological/chemical weapon.
Anyway if you look at the ending credits you see this:
Bruce Banner: blahblahblah
Someone else: blahblahblah
Security Guard: blahblah, STAN LEE, blahblah, blahblah
Someone else: …..etc.
Now I’m no genius, but I think Stan Lee is the creator of Spiderman and the Hulk amoung others. Damn maybe I HAVE to rewatch the movie to see his cameo…or to make sure I read the credits right.
Anywayz
Final Score: 8.5/10
If you were going to see this anyway, SEE IT. If you were not, (as in you are not a fan of Marvel) you probably won’t like it.
