Nadesico: Prince of Darkness

I’ve watched the movie a second time and damn, it was as good, if not better, than the first time. ^_^

The movie takes place 3 years after the conclusion of Nadesico the TV series. Yurika and Akito became Ruri’s legal guardians and they sort of lived happily ever after. But on Yurika and Akito’s honeymoon, a mysterious explosion destroyed their space shuttle and they were officially dead although no bodies were found. Dr. Inez died in an accident some time later.

3 years passed and Ruri turns 16, (still kawaii) she is now the captain of Nadesico-B and has stopped saying bakabaka. (aww….) When a mysterious mecha that can boson jump (teleport) appeared, followed by a group of polllitical rebels who captured a space colonies, things start getting interesting. (btw for background info, boson jump has been possible since the series, but the single artifact that controls the mysterious power was supposedly destroyed, so only huge battleships can use stationary Jumpgates. However a mecha should not be able to boson jump by itself, much less without a jump gate)

I was surprise at how much storyline was compressed into 80 minutes of movie, the animators really did not waste a single frame. The movie tied up all the loose ends in the series. Most of the movie focuses of Ruri-chan, and many old characters made appearance.

My only dislike about the movie is the name. “Prince of Darkness” sounds somewhat corny. (although if you watch the movie you will realize its meaning. Hint: it’s not talking about the bad guys)

Best. Anime. Movie. Ever. (although you NEED to watch the whole series to appreciate it)
Final Score: 9.9/10
