If you want to skip all my rantage and go straight to the tutorial on Covert Ops, scroll down to “Tutorial Start”
Just played a game of RTCW:ET and got accused of cheating. X_x Of course one of my teammates pointed out that I had PunkBuster on since PAGN auto-kicks all non-PB users. I was the top score with 663 experience, which is not much, in the Fuel Dump map. (last map of the campaign, so 663 is not really anything) Anyway I was accused not because I had high exp, but because I one-shot-kill anyone who came near the main bridge and foot bridge engineering points. (with a K43 of course)
Now let me just teach all these noobs how this can be done easily.
Because of the 2 previous maps, I was already Hauptmann (Captain) at the start of Fuel Dump. I was Covert Ops the previous maps too, so I had lvl FOUR light weapons, lvl FOUR covertops and lvl 3 battle sense. Basically all these boils down to the fact that I had Dual-Pistols, 35% faster reloads, and 50% reduction in sniping recoil and swaying. (and some other things I didn’t make use of)
The allies had only ONE engineer at the start of the map, allowing me to pick him off easily each time before he builds/reinforces the bridge.
So all I had to do was to choose a nice little spot and snipe those enemy troops while they have no way of crossing. (I stayed near the foot bridge area to Satchel Charge it if it was built)
Now with all these advantages to the Axis, plus me having all my stats maxed out 2 minutes into the game, and the fact that the allied were complete newbies, gave me a lot of oppurtunities to snipe.
The enemy had snipers too, but they did not get a single kill and usually switch class after dying 1 or 2 times. Anyway, the most cheating-like thing I did was to kill people while they run around. Well if anyone had bothered to spectate me, they will see that I LEAD my target, meaning I can’t possibly be using an aimbot. Now since most noobs have no idea what leading is, or even how to snipe other than placing the crosshair on the enemy’s bother, I’ll do a short…”tutorial”.
Tutorial Start
1. Most important thing ever: PRONE! NeVeR snipe when you are standing, only snipe in crouch if you have no other options. (something blocking your view when proned)
2. Have a FEW spots planned out, if enemy artillry your camping area, move to the next one.
3. Always steady your shoot before shooting, the bar on the left side when in zoom mode tells you how steady your aim is. Wait for it for dissappear. If you fire before it steadys, it will most likely miss and the recoil will make you have to wait even more if you don’t want to miss for your next shot. (in other words, don’t be anxious to kill the enemy the moment he is in your sight)
4. After a shot, the recoil will cause your aim to move upwards. DO NOT UNSCOPE (right-click)! Instead, use the mousewheel to zoom out, move your crosshair back, then zoom in again with mousewheel. The reason for doing this is, each time you unscope and scope, the steady bar will reset and you have to wait again. If you decrease the magnification using the mousewheel, the bar will not change.
5. Aim for the head. Obvious but frequently forgotten. Don’t worry about missing your shot just because the head is smaller than the body. If you have steadied it, chances are it will not miss. If you aim for the body, it will be more likely to hit, BUT very unlikely to kill, so you just gave the target a warning, allowing him to hide somewhere.
6. Aim for the head.
7. Aim for the head. Three time’s the charm. (better remember this!)
8. Moving objects are harder to hit. Although this does not mean you avoid aimming for moving targets altogether, try to use your common sense to predict what the enemy will do. For example if the enemy is an engineer, and there is a mission-critical objective nearby, (ie, bridge in Fuel Dump) WAIT for him to stop walking and start building the objective. Then aim for the head and bam! You have just annoyed the whole enemy team. Now if you had fired when he was still moving, the most likely senario is this: You miss, recoil causes you to lose the target. After you have steadied the recoil, (using the method stated above) the target has most likely already completed his objective.
9. However number 8 can be ignored if your Covert Ops is lvl 3 or higher as you will have the -50% recoil bonus, thus allowing you to fire multiple shots in succession accurately. (not really, but fast enough) If you ARE going to aim for a moving target, LEAD him, as in move where he is GOING to and not where he WAS. (players of Space Invaders will know this concept well)
10. Remember this is not Counter-Strike, so the sniper rifle does NOT really hit where your crosshair aims. The difference is usually too small to make a difference, but over large distances, the gap will become bigger as the bullet travels. Therefore, if you are having trouble hitting a particular location from another particular location, (as in you followed ALL my advices and can’t even hit a non-moving object standing at that location) chances are, it is too far away and hitting it even with max stats and steadied aim will probably be like winning the lottery. Solution: Don’t waste bullets there, or if it is really a good choke point, move closer.
11. One final advice: You rifle can be used as a close range weapon. Keep you aim on the enemy in unzoomed mode and hold down the left mouse button. If you cannot kill him after 5 shots, switch to pistol immediately. (provided you are still alive) If you master strafing, the rifle is actually a very good close range weapon as it kills in 2 or 3 hits.
Anyway for those who want to know, I had 34 rifle kills, 2 dual-pistol kills and 1 knife kills. I think about 4 of those rifle kills and all the pistol and knife kills were done when I sneaked infiltrated the enemy base for fun. lol…we pushed them back so far into their spawn that I could not snipe them due to the bullet rule mentioned in number 10. So I had to get my uniform dirty and went behidn enemy lines. (one FieldOps in my team almost catch up with me in points after they went out of sniping range :P) The enemy had an engineer called “Bones” who must have acccounted for 10 of those rifle kills. Good old reliable bones, always go for the bridge and then crouch instead of prone, exposing his head.
Well that was a long enough rant…oh yeah forgot, yes I finally got to try dual-pistol. (I spawned with it after I got Light Weapons lvl 4 when I was still a Captain)
