After exhausting the supply of Fly me to the moon Evangelion-mixes, I tried some other versions. One of my favourite is the one by Utada Hikaru. It actually has new lyrics and sounds like a completely different song. (until the chorus of course…)
Here’s the full lyrics for her version:
Poets often use many words
To say a simple thing
It takes thought and time and rhyme
To make a poem singingWith music and words I’ve been flying
For you I have written a song
To be sure that you’ll know what I’m saying
I’ll translate as i go alongFly me to the moon,
And let me play among the stars
Won’t you let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
In other words: Hold my hand!
In other words: Darling, kiss me!Fill my heart with song,
And let me sing forever more
You are all I long for all I worship and adore
In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!Com’on, just take me to the moon… yeah
Bolds are the new lyrics. Best version ever. ^_^ Her lyrics is sort of an explaination for the original song. “I’ll translate as i go along” refers to the “In other words”s in the original lyrics.
UPDATE: Ok…the Tony Bennett version contains the new lyrics and little bit more, so now I’m not sure who the hell came up with it. Research on the net showed nothing since there’s like 100000000 version of Fly me to the Moon and all the infomation about it will take longer than I can live to read. So can anyone just enlightened me: What verses did the original song have?
In fact…who did hell wrote/sang the ORIGINAL? I’m pretty sure the one by Diana Krell at the end of Evangelion episode is NOT the original.
