Finished watching Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou. The ending left me wishing for more… Basically they managed to resolve every single sub plot in the series yet at the same time resolve NOTHING at all. All the endings are vague and give you an idea of what will happen next, but “next” was never shown. This gets really really fustrating. It’s like a book telling you that it will have a happy ending instead of showing you the happy ending.
AND WHAT KIND OF ANIME HAS A FILLER EPISODE AS THE 2ND LAST EPISODE IN THE SERIES?!?!? Ok, technically it wasn’t really a filler… but dammit I don’t want to know about a new sub plot at the second last episode, I want a near-conclusion to the main plot!
And just when I thought they couldn’t get any lower with the animations after what they did in episode 19, GAINAX surprised me yet again. Imagine episode 25/26 of Evangelion for the WHOLE series and something even WORSE than that for the last episode. And what kind of anime ends the last episode with “To be continued” when you know that there isn’t going to be a 2nd season? (As I said, the ending concluded everything suggestively, but doesn’t actually show you the conclusions)
Still, Despite all its flaws, Kare Kano has a certain magic about it. It broke the rules of conventions of high-school-love-comedy genre. Hell it didn’t even have a love triangle. I think it can easily qualify in my top 5 favourite anime. Damn, I hope Chuangyi licensed Kare Kano mangas or I’ll be forced to import them.
UPDATE: Apparently there is a CHANCE of more episodes being made, though after 5 years, what is the likelyhood of that? Also it seems that the drop in quality later on the in series is actually attributed to Hideaki Anno LEAVING the team, due to conflicts with the producers. So he only directed up to episode 14. Hmmmm…. That must have been because the replacement attempted to reproduce Anno’s style without inhaling glue beforehand. Tsk Tsk, when will they ever learn.
