Comrade

The SCV repairmen are going to come and check on my com next monday. Annoying customer service operators… they just HAD to make me go through the whole “check your winipcfg, unplug and replug your modem, restart your computer” routine as if I am an idiot. Seriously, their instructions are ALWAYS the same, it’s like they are reading from the same user manual, which they probably are. If all they do is to ask people to check whether their modems are blinking, an answering machine would provide better customer services…

Anyway, my unread manga supply is running low, so I’m staying off mangas for a while. Almost finished Call of Duty too, I’m on the 3rd mission of the Russian campaign, which is the last campaign. The first mission of the Soviet campaign is easily the best moment I’ve had in a game, even Medal of Honor’s Omaha beach landing mission wasn’t THIS good. You play a Soviet conscript whose life is worth less than a rifle. The officer shouting propagandas was a nice touch, as was the other landing crafts being picked off by dive bombers and artillery fire. Really gave the whole thing a Hollywood-feel. What’s more, you play the first mission without a single weapon. Apparently the promised “enough weapons, ammunition” meant “1 rifle for 2 people, the one without the rifle gets a clip of ammo and wait for the one with the rifle to die”. That’s right, you play the guy who didn’t get the rifle, and trust me, I’ve tried, their weapons are scripted not to drop in the first mission, so you can’t find them from dead bodies. Meanwhile, the Germans have Stuka strafing over your head and sandbagged MG42s located on higher ground than the beach you landed on. Exhilarating stuff. :P The second mission forces you to run across a area with little cover to retake the Red Square, which was guarded by two tanks and two MG42s. Or should I say three. If you run or even move slightly backwards, the MG42 manned by a Soviet officer behind you will take down any deserters and cowards. I got mowed down once because I moved one step back to retrieve a rifle from the ground. >__< With mindsets like these, no wonder Russia lost 1/10 of its population in WW2. Now that CoD is almost over, I started playing Tokimeki Memorial to pass my time. It’s more fun than I expected. The difficulty is quite a pain in the ass though. >_<
