Matthew

Finally took the time and finished Mahoromatic season 2. The ending was… unexpected. GAINAX’s trademarks are all over the series.
Lots of fanservice: check. (definitely…)
Characters being constantly depressed: check.
The original enemy turned out to be the good guys and the real enemies are actually humans: check.
Ending that leaves you unsure about whether you should feel happy or sad: check. (although not on such a huge scale as Evangelion)

All in all, the second season is a LOT darker and more depressing than the first, not unlike first time watching Evangelion. Well, except that Evangelion hinted at all the sinister stuff 20 times per second while Mahoromatic force-feed every fricking plot bomb through a few episodes. Heck, the REAL villians (I guess you can call them that) were not even in season one. Maybe it’s due to the comedy elements of the show, they just make the ending seem out of place… I think they should have ended the series at episode 13 and leave it at that.

P.S. Mahoro dies.
