Narutaru

I’m so bored that I’m almost wishing for school. Well if there isn’t all the after school activities, school will be perfect. Waste away the morning, but still enough time left for my own stuff. Sigh…

Anyway I just found out that I have this nice little song from one of the Evangelion OSTs titled “Tamashii no Rufuran”. (don’t ask me where I got it…it’s just there for some reason) It sounds reeeeeeeeeeeeaaally nice, my new favourite eva song. I don’t remember where it whether it was even in the series or movie, but who cares. :P I’ll upload the midi as the bmg as soon as I receive it. The start and the chorus rocks!

Anyway, my quest for a complete Maaya collection takes a small break. I’m now looking for the english version of “No. 1” by BoA. I already have the Korean and Japanese versions, but no one seems to have the english one. Well one guy has it, but his fileserver is not accessible…

Now on to the RANTAGE…

Finished watching Narutaru yesterday. The most screwed up series I’ve ever seen. Screwed up in ways you wouldn’t believe. The show is about this girl who finds this cute little star thingy and made friends with it. The opening has a very upbeat tune and the OP animation is drawn in chibi crayon-coloured style. SOUNDS LIKE EITHER A KIDS OR SHOUJO SHOW, NO?!?!

WELL IT’S ALL A LIE! This is the most mentally disturbing show I’ve ever seen, even more than Evangelion. All the characters are fricking psychopaths. Children psychopaths. WHY? Well I can give you a long list of reasons. Spoilers ahead but it’s not like you are going to watch it after reading this list.

1. Shiina’s friend, Akira, tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrist at least 3 times. Each time the audience is treated to a psychological-breakdown type thing while she stares at her wrist.
2. The star thing mentioned earlier is a “Dragonet”, which are creatures from another dimension that can bound mentally with a human and act out his/her will. A 15 year old boy and his friends uses theirs to kill people. Their ultimate goal is to take over the world, kill all the educated people, and use physical labour to ensure that only the fittest survive. WTF?
3. The above mentioned guy was eventually killed by Hoshimaru, who maintains its “cute” look the whole time.
4. The boy’s friends used their Dragonets to fight the Japanese Self Defence Force. Because they are mind linked, whenever their Dragonets get hit, they themselves suffer. Viewer is treated to a long shot of this girl twitching and screaming from the damage.
5. The said girl’s Dragonet used a chemical gas to kill everyone in the surrounding. (they are controlling the Dragonet remotely) Hoshimaru covers Shiina and Akira, however the friendly JSDF officer who was talking to them just minutes ago wasn’t so lucky. Shiina and Akira LOOKED from inside Hoshimaru’s shield as the officer died a horrible death associated with chemical weapons. Followed by hundreds of dead bodies lying on the ground around the guilty Dragonet.
6. This girl at Shiina’s school was being bullied by a group of girls for getting good grades. They forced her to drink some chemicals that causes worms to grow in her stomach, which she promptly vomits out and of course the viewers get the front row view.
7. Said girl bullied again. This time a test tube was inserted into her vagina… DON’T ASK.
8. Finally said girl goes CRAZY. She wanted revenge. By chance, she found a Dragonet and bounded with it.
9. Said girl used Dragonet to kill her bulliers.
10. Bullier number one gets torn to little pieces in the middle of the night.
11. Bullier number two’s brother gets his head cleanly cut off.
12. Bullier number two gets force-fed worms, followed by a swift claw jab into her stomach.
13. Bullier number three gets thrown down four storeys.
14. Bullier number four, the luckiest, survived. Her arms broke. One of her legs got cleanly chopped off.
15. The bullied girl killed her parents for forcing her to get good grades.
16. She then almost killed Shiina’s father because she believes that all parents are bad.
17. Shiina almost choked her to death, but couldn’t do it. Hoshimaru lends helping hand and killed the girl even though Shiina begged him/it not it. Hoshimaru still maintains the “cute” look the whole time.
18. Akira killed her father with a dagger for seemingly no reason.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS WAS AIRED ON A CHANNEL CALLED “KID’S STATION”. Also keep in mind that everything about the opening animation suggests that it is a kid’s show. How disturbing can you get?

The best explaination I could find was written in an animenfo.com review. The overall theme of the series, other than that all children are psychopaths, is that these childrens are detached from the real world. They all have problems communicating with their parents. (that or they don’t have parents) The only exception was Shiina, the only one still sane at the ending. She and her father get along very well. I’m guessing the purpose of this series is to make parents realize their roles in bringing up their children. For example, that girl who got bullied. Her parents were very strict on her, scolding her for getting “only” 97/100 for a test. (she purposely got one question wrong in hope of merciness from the bullies, which failed) She ended up killing both parents. On the other extreme, we have Shiina’s friend, Akira, whose parents were too lenient since she was young. She grew to become a completely USELESS child, with completely no will to live on just because no one likes her and attempted suicide multiple times. She ended up killing her father for no good reason.

And so, to achieve the purpose of spreading this message, the series made itself look seemingly innocent in order to trick children into watching it and thus alerting their parents….

STILL NO MATTER WHAT, this is the SICKEST, most DISTURBING and most SADISTIC show I’ve ever seen. Shows like Hellsing might have more blood, but they are OBVIOUSLY targeted at adult audiences. I think even an adult will be disturbed by Narutaru because of the context these violent acts are presented in…
