Tales of Eternia

So… I completed Tales of Eternia for PSP during my trip to Malaysia. (what do you think those 6-hour long bus rides are for?) I have to say that it’s a pretty good game that reminded me of those countless hours I spent on FF7, FF8 and Legend of Mana, and why I’ve always prefered Japanese RPGs to western D&D-based ones.

The opening song “Flying” by Garnet Crow is great. The voice cast includes Akira Ishida (Athrun from Gundam SEED), Souichiro Hoshi (Kira from Gundam SEED) and Minami Omi (Ruri from Nadesico). Throw in a story that won’t look out of place in a Final Fantasy game and you get some Pure Japanese RPG Goodness(tm).

Though I must say, I didn’t bother to look for all the hidden secrets in the game. Heck, I didn’t even collect all the Craymels (think GFs from FF8) in the game. Neither did I fight the final boss with the best equipment. I tend to play these games for the story, so I lose all motivation once the ending credits roll. But for those of you who do care about getting the best of everything, the game has plenty of secrets to explore, such as three or four hidden Craymels, the best non-elemental sword for the main character and even a sidequest to upgrade the ship you get later on with the ability to fly.

Now I can’t wait for my next RPG fix, Y’s: The Ark of Napishtim, to come out for PSP. Meanwhile, I think I’m going to finally pick up a copy of Wipeout (probably secondhand because I’m broke). Lumines is fun but the puzzle mode is driving me crazy. Stucked at the 2x 4×4 stage. Argh.
