Wandering

Geh. Wandered around the whole of yesterday and ended up getting a bunch of things I did not need.

First of all, I took MRT all the way from the west of Singapore to Pasir Ris just to buy a Wi-Fi antenna from a dealer on Hardwarezone. It is half the price of the cheapest antenna at Sim Lim, but I’m not sure if it works as well. Hey, at least now I have an antenna sticking out of my Linksys Wireless-G Compact Router instead of a flat surface.

Then I ate lunch at Pasir Ris and took the MRT all the way back to Bugis. I was looking for the new Ghost in the Shell PSP game just released in Japan the previous day. I noticed that most stores in Sim Lim Square only stocked Asian and US releases and the only shop with GitS in stock had it for SGD 85. ZOMG that’s bloody expensive. Could it be a typo? I called Gamescore at Funan and they told me that their price is SGD 72. I asked the store owner (at Sim Lim) and he claimed that “it’s different”… Uh, ok, I guess I’ll take the “different” one then.

So, I walked from Sim Lim to Funan, deciding to skip Anime House because I’ll be forced to buy a copy of this month’s Comptiq (I ‘ve already read Shia’s copy) if I show my face there (*cough*). Gamescore was out of GitS!!! NOOO! They will only restock on Monday. Damn. I stood around a bit to watch Advent Children being played on a widescreen TV in the store (with Japanese subtitles, woohoo). It was near the end where Cloud pwned Sepiroth, so I stood around long enough to see Aerith’s one and only appearance. Though I’m not really FF junkie, I was looking forward to AC. But I have to say, it’s pretty crap for a movie.

After wasting some time at Gamescore, I wandered around Challenger and got myself a SD card reader. I needed a portable flash storage, but decided that it was a waste of money to get a USB thumbdrive that can’t be used on anything other than a PC. So I got a cheap portable card reader and use it with the SD card in my phone. I already have a SD/MS/CF/whatever reader at home, but it’s not exactly portable since it requires a cable.

Finally, I bought two movies from Laser Flair, Black Hawk Down and Be With You (Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu). The uncut version of Black Hawk is NC-16, but somehow the person at the counter didn’t ask for my IC. I guess only HMV actually bothers.

On a final note, almost every goddamn store in Sim Lim and Funan was pimping the iPod nano. However, seeing as they are all selling it at the same official retail price, I don’t see any reason why anyone should buy it from those stores. If you live in Singapore, just order it online through Apple! They charge the same price and they provide free same-day delivery. If you are willing to wait two weeks, the online store even gives you free word-engraving!

I played Lumines until I nearly went crazy yesterday. Managed to unlock two more levels… I want my Ghost in the Shell dammit! Arrrgh.
