Trying to softmod an Xbox and install XMBC or Linux onto it…
Xbox with 1.2 firmware (and even a Samsung DVD drive) – Check
Xbox to USB convertor – Check
USB device that works with Xbox (turns out all my card readers failed but my 128mb iRiver flash player made the mark) – Check
XBMC binary downloaded from eDonkey – Check
Linux installation discs (three distros just in case) – Check
Saved game exploit needed to run unsigned code – Check
Original copy of Splinter Cell needed by the exploit – Check…at least that was what I thought.
Turns out my copy of Splinter Cell won’t work because it’s NTSC US/Canada whereas my Xbox is NTSC Japan. Shit. And I can’t find a NTSC/J copy of the original Splinter Cell anywhere since it’s a few hundred years old! Damn. Looks like I have to give up softmodding and shell out some money for the cheapest solderless modchip I can find… Sigh…
