I’ve been watching RahXephon recently (among others) and it is REALLY creepy how everything constantly reminds me of Evangelion… Ayato is like Shinji. Megumi is like Asuka. There’re even Misato, Gendou and Rei equivalents. (although two girls seem to fit the Rei-bill… guess the makers of RahXephon saw how popular Rei was and decided that two is better than one)

And as usual, Ayato is the only one capable of piloting the mecha-secret-weapon-thingy but refuses to fight… Heck, even the art style is similar…

The main difference is that RahXephon is focusing more on the plot and less on Anno Hideki’s patented brand of “deep psychological shit”. An enjoyable series in its own right, I think it’s listed in AnimeNfo’s top 100 list too… quite near Evangelion if memory serves. Some people even call it “what Evangelion should have been”. Meh. Rei > everything.
