Gundam SEED Episode 1 English Dub

Kids Central aired the first episode of GSeed today. Dubbed of course. The English dub is waaaay better than the Chinese one that comes with ODEX VCD’s but still not as good as the original Japanese cast. I’m guessing the dub is the USA version. The lips sync better than the usual dubs (especially the Chinese ones) but the choice of voice actors could be better. A lot of the characters have completely different “feel” from their original due to their new voice. Example will be Natarle Badgiruel. Her English voice actor had a slight accent that I did not like. Kira Yamato also sounds worse. In this aspect, the Chinese cast was a lot closer to the Japanese one. I guess it’s due to genetics… But really, it is possible to make the English dub retain same feel. Just watch FLCL in English. I swear they did not bother to hire a new American cast and taught the Japanese seiyuus English instead. o_O

Nothing much to say about the episode itself. Seen it four times already. o_o Not to mention the manga. I think nothing was cut in the first episode, even the bloody shootings during the attack on the factory sector was shown. That was somewhat surprising.

Really, the only complain I have with Kids Central airing GSeed is that it’s one year late. AND they are airing it weekly. That translates to exactly one year for the series to finish. Not to mention the two commercial breaks per episode. x_x

I don’t think I’ll be watching every episode… but I will keep up with it to look out for any cuts and censors.

Anyway, I give the dub
7.6/10

And for those of you watching the series for the first time.

SPOILERS!!!!

Fllay dies near the end.
Nicol dies. He is one of the ZAFTs that stole the Gundams. His gundam is GAT-X207 Blitz.
Mwu La Fllaga dies. He is that guy who piloted the Earth mobile armour and destroyed a ZAFT suit with those two things that can detach from the main armour body.
Tolle (Kira’s friend) dies.

Hmmmm… in fact, it’s better to just assume that every one of them dies and make exceptions for those who don’t instead… Yes, that will be better.

People who don’t die: Kira, Athrun, Lacus, Cagalli, Miriallia, Sai, Murrure, Dearka, Yzak. Everyone else = either too insignificant or died. :P
