Shakugan no Shana Itasha

Hey everyone. Remember me? Yeah I’m still alive. I shall not bore you with details about why I’ve been so inactive lately (nothing to do with Odex) and instead I bring you an extremely short post with zero actual content (aka a filler) just to let you know that I am not dead yet. But first, a picture!

Shana Itasha
Wait, what?

So here’s the story. Last Sunday, I was in the Orchard area playing my part for the community at large by volunteering as the official photographer for some charity street busking project—we have a lot of these. After seven gruelling hours spent repeatedly depressing the shutter button, I was ready to move on to the next stage of my spiritual evolution, i.e. death. Then, as I was close to drawing my final breath, I noticed a familiar face…in 2D. There was a Chevrolet car show going on at Civics Square (aka the empty area outside Ngee Ann City which, up to that point in time, was completely outside my sphere of awareness. (I’m not a car person, okay?) The only thing I know about Chevrolet is that Bumblebee is one. Good old Bumblebee.

I am digressing, as usual. The point is that I saw the car pictured above on display. Apparently it won the “Best Dress up Car Contest”. Oh wow. I took a few shots. Some guy walked passed with his girlfriend and, after the initial momentary look of shock was replaced by one of recognition and child-like joy, took out his phone to take a few pictures too. Meanwhile, the announcer kept harping on Chevrolet’s (paid) appearance in Transformers.

Times like these bring tears to my eyes. The owner of this car has achieved one of my goals in life, except that I hate Shana and the line art trace he used for the decal is pretty fugly. Oh well, you can’t have everything in life. At least now I know who to look for when if I get my own car one day.

P.S. Don’t know what “itasha” means? Read this. It’s a (relatively) common phenomenon in Japan, but this is the first one I’ve seen in Singapore.

  2. double says:

There are a few more itashas in Singapore, just need to spot them lol. Zer0 has a few pictures of the itasha’s he spotted,on his website.

  3. AnimeFreak!!! says:

of all charactor out there and it have to be shana…
should dress up in haruhi instead…

Even better if it was lucy(nyuu)…

  4. LianYL says:

I was rather convinced that Itashas are banned on the roads of Singapore but maybe I’ll now go learn driving just for that.

  5. Windbell says:

It’s pretty nice and all but the color’s are really terrible. Especially her hair. It’s pink like pirated pikachu

  6. bummerout says:

Umm… maybe its like painful for the car? … Kinda like when you get a tatto… The colours on this one look a little off…. haven’t gotten a chance to watch shana yet…. =_=
And well… for all the money we have to spend on getting a car (esp in Singapore), think i’ll get one i like and leave it that way… no itasha for me…

  7. Kurogane says:

    Awesome… if I had a car, I might consider doing that too…

Sadly, this things are banned in Malaysia though.

  8. Zeroblade says:

I dunno about their legality in the Philippines, but damn, I’d totally want one of those. A Ferrari Testarossa with Fate on it sounds pretty good to me.

  9. To Zeroblade:

The LTO says that “glaring front or rear body parts and/or sporting dazzling accessories” is an offense (and you’ll shell out Php 50,000). Itasha markings are a-OK, as long as they don’t induce glares.

For the past few years, I saw quite a few jeepneys with anime and video game decals and spray patterns trudging through major Manila thoroughfares. Will I call them itasha, too?

I hope that someday I’ll ride in glory along a customized owner-type jeep chock full of decals of my favorite bishoujo. A Ferrari’s fine, too.

    I second this.

Har?? Tanning a car is banned in Malaysia??!! I was just thinking of tanning it with anime when i brought my own car later on !!

  12. tiny Red Man says:

Glad to know you’re not dead. n_n

And, of course, I always appreciate some cool itasha pics, especially when it’s Shana.

  14. dKiWi says:

@Kurogane: THEY BANT SINGAPOREAN CARS WITH TINTED WINDOWS. BLEAAARRRGHHHZZZ.

    N I juz got my license too…

  15. Melvin says:

S’far as I know they shouldn’t be too popular in Singapore, seeing that we have a rather conservative society and whatnot. I do remember seeing one on the road outside my house, though – the guy had noticeably large decals on the sides and bonnet. That’s the only time I saw one – pity I didn’t take a closer look.

  16. Elydis says:

    Shana… T-T im so happy

  17. game hacks says:

I think this is not going to work in singapore !

  18. SHINING says:

Mmm. I want to learn to drive now :P (I’ll think about get that car later…).

  19. Model_X says:

That’s a pretty rare sight. I haven’t seen any cars in SG being modded with an anime character. Only those typical bengs with their dual exhaust.

  20. sesshomaru_haku says:

I was debating whether I would -should- ever get a car, but after seeing this…

  21. miya says:

I salute the car owner for his originality. But I spit at the fugly paint job he did. It’s one horribly done itasha. I don’t like Shana as well, but at least use RED for her hair dammit! If Shana wasn’t a glob of wavy Bandung, I wouldn’t have said anything.

  22. Nice decal for a car? Meh I like Shana, but the coloring and all are crappy =( I’ve seen “shopped” pictures of car w/ ani. decal better than this…but oh well. Interesting none-the-less. Nice snag of a picture moment?

  23. Zer0 says:

Yo DM, please check your email and hopefully reply ASAP by SMS!

  24. Gerrymon says:

    Shana W00t~!
    but….

wth with the pink hair? and where’s the flame?
I tottally agree with “the line art trace he used for the decal is pretty fugly”

  25. animeking says:

Yay,the lord of the blog lives! Lets celebrate! Now that I have that out of the way,I am bored. >.>

  26. LoserEXE says:

I’ve seen a pikachu one before while I was in the bus. I was like WTH! Oh and then I also saw another one which had an Anime girl on it similar to the Shana one but the car had that NFS nylon lights and all going on with the heavy engine sound hahaha.

Anyway, isn’t Shana’s hair Flame red when she fights? (Sorry been out of the Anime scene for awhile now)

  27. terry says:

i have actually saw this car in sungei gedong camp lol.. so..

  31. The HCG diet drops are an economical option as compared to the HCG
injections. NOTE: This dish includes 3 vegetables which are meant just for flavor.

It is non-invasive and requires no refrigeration the way injectable HCG does.

  35. You actually make it seem so easy together with your presentation however I to find this
topic to be actually one thing which I think I would never understand.
It sort of feels too complex and very huge for me. I’m
looking forward for your next put up, I will try to get the cling of
    it!

  36. Something to cool off in handily might be a great addition to the garden plan. Impossible outdoors, but entirely achievable indoors with grow
closets. Subsequently, as the environment is perfected, the growing conditions are ideal for the plants, meaning
    efficiency and healthier, faster yields.
