Played a game of Warcraft 3 LAN with Bor Ray during RCS today. I won of course. LoL. :) Night Elves forever! :P
I started on the top left corner and he started on the bottom right corner. The map had two goldmines in the center and neutral buildings positioned symmetrically around the map. I started off with a Demon Hunter and started creeping with two archers. Here I made my first mistake… I took on a stone golem with like 4 archers and my Demon Hunter died. ;_;
After a 170gold revivial, I took another route and creeped the goldmine nearer to my base. A stroke of luck left me with a Red Drake Egg, which I saved for emergencies. Immediately after securing the mine, I sent a lone wisp to build a Tree of Life there and now I have two gold mines producing gold. Meanwhile I am continuing to research Hunter Hall upgrades for my Huntresses and Archers. (level 1 upgrade maxed)
After creeping a merchant shop, I bought a Boot of Speed and a Town Portal. (current inventory: 2 TP, 2 BoS, Potion of Greater Healing and a Red Drake Egg) I left my creeping party near the top of the entrance to my secondary mine and went back to manage my base. (maxed out archer and huntress upgrades except for lvl 3 hunter hall, more wisp for wood, upgrade to last stage of Tree of Life… whatever it’s called) Here I made my second mistake: for some reason I thought I was going to need Druid of Talons… so I wasted some resources for an Ancient of Wind(?). Suddenly alarms sounded! I jumped to my creeping party and found them surrounded by Bor Ray’s assault force consisting of lvl 3(?) Crypt King, 5 Ghouls and 6 Creep Fiends. (compared to my lvl 3 Demon Hunter, 4 Archers and 3 Huntresses) Being the cowardly Night Elves, I TP’ed back to my base. :P Bor Ray fell right into my trap and comes charging towards the top left, completely missing out my defenceless secondary goldmine just nanometers away from where we met.. Anyway, he led his troops to doom by engaging my near-fully-upgraded units right BESIDE my moonwells. (I had 4 at that time) Naturally I finished his hero and all his units. (I had to micro the red-lifed Demon Hunter a bit to avoid dying, then I realized that he had a Potion on him and used it… ^^;; That was an important event as my Demon Hunter lived to gain another level because of it)
Anyway, after seeing that Bor Ray seems to be mainly massing low-tier units, (which don’t seem to have much upgrades on them) I decided to tech up. (in my language, that means massing the ultimate unit for that side. :P) Using a few wisps, I built 2 Chimera Roasts and maxed out my Moonwells. Then I started chucking out Chimeras. Pretty soon I had 4 of them and was ready to go out again. However Bor Ray used one of his Scabs to scout my base. (naturally raped by Chimeras, but the problem is that he saw my Chimeras…) I thought he was going to mass air to counter, so I queued two Druids of Talons. (my Ancient wasn’t wasted after all! Or so I thought) After they finished, I realized something: I forgot that you need to research twice in order to unlock their bird mode. Well I wasn’t going to sacrifice anymore gold, so I have this TWO little Druids stand near my Moonwells for decoration… lol… Anyway, I sent out a little recon force, consisting of my Demon Hunter, 3 Huntresses and 3 Archers. I met Bor Ray at the same place again, but this time I was prepared. As I predicted, he had again massed a force of Ghouls and Crypt Fiends with his still-level-3 (or was it 4?) Crypt King. (my Demon Hunter was level 5 then) The minute I saw his troops approaching, I started running! (do it the Night Elf way! lol) Bor Ray didn’t bite the bait, my lone Demon Hunter ran forward and did a lvl 2 Mana Burn on his hero. Seizing the chance, he tried to surround my DH, but I ran off. This time he chased a little and bam! 4 Chimeras come along spitting lightning bolts. They never stood a chance. :P Well they might have if Bor Ray bothered to micro and use his Crypt Fiends to web my Chimeras, but my advantage in damage finished them off quickly. Meanwhile, I continued churning out Chimeras, 1 or 2 Archers and Huntresses and 2 Glaive Thrower. (Bor Ray likes Spirit Towers, so artillery is a necessity)
Immediately after killing off his Crypt King and reaching lvl 6, (Metamorphsis!!) I rushed to his base. As expected, the defence structures were closely packed and too many for 4 Chimeras, 1 or 2 Huntresses and a Demonform DH to handle. They managed to pick off one Chimera, so I fell back and stood ground just outside range of his Spirit Towers and waited for my artillery to arrive. Meanwhile my 3 Chimeras pick off any units coming near our little siege blockade. :P (I’ve been researching while all these are happening, Chimeras by now have Acid upgrade and at least lvl 2 in both attack and defence for Hunters Hall)
Soon my two Glaive Throwers arrived, joined by a fresh supply of Chimeras. (my food reached 88/90) My two little Glaives start to slowly pick off their Spirit Towers. Bor Ray started sending all his units over in an attempt to kill them. One of them fell apart, but the other one was covered by a whole bunch of Chimeras. :P After finishing half of the Towers, I activated Metamorphsis, used up the Red Drake Egg I’ve been saving and rallied all my assault force into the base. After some resistance from the remaining defence structures, I was left with around 5 Chimeras, my DH and the Red Drake (or Dragon?) from the egg. My DH was lvl 8 in the end.
I love Night Elves!! Maybe next time I’ll try using Warden as my primary hero instead, Fan of Knives, Blink and Shadowmeld, should be fun. :P
