Official Suzumiya Haruhi Cels

I was browsing Kyo-ani’s official site when I came across these Official Haruhi cels on sale at Kyo-ani’s web store.

The cels are created from the original data used in the anime (which is pure CG) and limited to one per person. Each one comes in an album that protects the cel and an accompanying certificate is printed with your name, the episode number and the cut number. They are not mass produced and it takes about two months upon ordering to ship.

15,000 yen is a shit load of money, though. It’s also somewhat disappointing that my favourite scenes from “Live Alive” and “Yuuutsu VI” are not included. Still, it may be a good investment to buy one of these and keep it for a few years… <_<

Holy fucking shit. Looks like I can’t treat you now. I’ll need every single cent to get this. LOL.

  2. DarkMirage says:

Excuses. You had no intention of treating me anyway!

  3. Otaru says:

… and the truth is the whole thing is going to be mass produced, then have a seperately printed certificate pasted onto them, which is just stuff printed off a database of the orders anyway. :D

  4. bj0rN`- says:

I still don’t understand wtf is this. But I guess I’ll start saving up now.

  5. Kozumura says:

So Tsubaki, wanna buy me those cels?

  6. Dulcea says:

Phew…! They don’t really expect people to buy those paper costing 150 USD per piece, do they? There are better things to do with my money.

  7. Enz says:

15,000 yen? That’s chump change for us serious cel collectors.

  8. Toonleap says:

    15,000 Yen = US$129.00 x 4 = 1/4 of my salary….not bad!
nah, just kidding…probably I will just buy one, and less probably, 2…well, probably 3….:P…Does they ship overseas?

  9. Riceblade says:

LOL agree with Enz. 15000yen is not much for cel collectors. I will be willing to blow about 30000-50000yen for a key nadesico cel with douga and genga and originalk background and maybe evenmore than that for a Evangelion cel. Still, i probably wont be getting it cause its erm..well digital data….as in it is not hand drawn as in the older cels that i have. It is mass produced right? What do you mean by they are not mass produced, since there is more than one of each copy, DM?

  10. Riceblade says:

Once again sorry for the Double Post DM, feel free to combine them if you want to, and ya, OMG they sell Full Metal Panic Cels too! Do they ship internationally DM? Might wanna get one of these: http://kyotoanimation.shop-pro.jp/?pid=671633
    LOL

  11. DarkMirage says:

They don’t ship overseas and they don’t accept any form of oversea payment either. You get mailorderjapan.com to buy it for you for a fee of 20 USD plus shipping.

I’m not exactly sure how they are making these, but it’s not mass-produced since they make one to fill each order.

  12. Enz says:

If I’m guessing right, these cels are actually rilezus. Rilezu cels are hand painted cels made from the original sketches (douga). They are also know as “Post Production” cels.
Rilezu cels were created to provide collectors with a tangible cel for their collection. Rilezu cels sometimes come with the original sketches, genga or background used for the animation.

  13. Enz says:

Heck, looking at some other rilezus from other series, these Haruhi ones are damn cheap!
    Example – Tessa from FUMOFFU

  14. DarkMirage says:

Well now that we have established that they are probably worth the 15k price tag. Who is getting one? >_>

I might… but it’ll have to be next month. Hope they don’t stop taking orders before that.

  15. starcaptor says:

The cel market in its heyday before CG took over every series would make 15k yen seem like pocket change ;_;. I have frens who got into them only to drop out because they had to consider life changing events…such as paying off student loans >P. There are some high quality key cels or OP/ED cels which can easily go for over 30k yen >D. Thats why I never got into it.

To top it off, most of the older cels are starting to fade now, because the xeroxed outlines were never meant to keep for long term.

  16. Enz says:

    >To top it off, most of the older cels are starting to fade now, because the xeroxed outlines were never meant to keep for long term.

It’s expected, but most serious cel collectors keep them in high quality art folders, stash in a dry, dark room. It slows down the aging process.
