Bah, humbug!

It’s Christmas Eve. I’m alone at home surfing the net and watching anime. Yet another Christmas that I won’t be celebrating.

So yeah, Merry Christmas to you folks who have the habit of celebrating Christmas. And remember those of us who don’t. No Christmas presents for me.

X'mas Haruhi

It’s not that I hate Christmas or anything, it’s just that my family never had the habit of celebrating Christmas. Probably it has something to do with the fact that my parents grew up in China and I lived there for the first few years of my life.

Also, Singapore is kind of summer all year round. In fact, we are one hour ahead of our real time zone, so we really are in summertime all year long. Christmas people celebrate here just ain’t Christmas as seen in anime. The day it snows in Singapore is the day a certain inconvenient truth comes one full cycle and bites us in the ass. It’s been a while since I last saw snow.

Or maybe it’s because school years in Singapore start in January and Christmas for us is really the beginning of the end of the holidays.

The funny thing is, I’ve never actually read “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens before. What I know about the Scrooge and the three Ghosts came from pop culture references like Simpsons, Cartoon Network and Hollywood. Who says TV isn’t educational?

What exactly is this rant about? I have no idea. Maybe I’m just feeling melancholic (fact: the usage of this word has increased by 721.23% online over the past few months), or maybe I’m just experiencing a writer’s block (which is impossible since I’m not a writer).

But remember, Chinese New Year is when I get my sweet, sweet revenge. Or maybe not. But at least I get some pocket money. Sweet.

Anyway, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Hopefully you aren’t spending your Christmas Eve reading this blog. :)

I am. Russians have their own lil Orthodox Christmas at January, 7th. Not like I care though, being an atheist.
    But!
The New Year celebration is the biggest/greatest/most loved one here, in Russia. I think, we love it even more than europeans and americans love their Catholic Christmas.

Thus, yet again 200 or so millions of ex-USSR citizens will drink all the night long on December, 31st / January, 1st. Preferably vodka.

Please, don’t blame us for any nukes landing somewhere in Washington D.C., one cannot really control himself being stuffed with 1 – 1.5 liters of russian vodka. Happy New Year!

Everything is closed Christmas day here in my US town. Unfortunate, since I plan on doing nothing. I hope some of the Asian-immigrant-run Restaurants are open so I can eat.

your computer display with anime/moe character, chicken, champagne, and cake, and any requisite figures around.

I found those pictures more disturbing than those loli-bestiality ones that I had the unfortunate circumstances in coming across.

Not doing anything for Christmas is nothing to feel melancholic about, specifically because where you live just isn’t geared towards making Christmas anything special.

  28. Sherman, the Ramni says:

C’mon, DM, stop ranting and celebrate Christmas. Buy some gifts and give them to your parents, make a cake, whatever. You’ll feel better.

  29. MistaYoH says:

My first ever comment on your blog! Merry Christmas. It’s okay to feel melancholic in christmas. I slept thru the count down too. =)

  30. Chicken says:

@MistaYoH : and now you are awake.

@Sherman, the Ramni : I don’t receive gifts in Christmas, i receive complaints.

    @Beuowolf : nice url

  31. Sherman, the Ramni says:

@Chicken: You might want to change that. Actually Christmas is the ONLY day in the year I don’t receive complaints. And that feels quite good.

  32. Beowulf says:

    >>>@Beuowolf : nice url

    It’s not mine, it’s piyo’s.

  33. jeremy says:

@Iss: i have scanned it..but how to send to u? dun think DM might wan to receive it…….but if DM wans..then should be ok …..Merry X’mas..

  34. AK says:

Dude… I haven’t been celebrating Christmas since I was 11. Don’t fel so bad about it, just know that there are people in Singapore just like you.

P.S. Is ‘melancholy’ pronounced with a ‘cho’ or a ‘kho’?

Merry Christmas, and an early CNY.

    Merry Christmas!

Come to think of it, this year’s christmas doesn’t seem to be that festive. I didn’t even have the motivation to visit the Orchard Road district to view the decorations this year. So today just feels like any other normal Monday.

The only thing I’m awaiting now is for Death Note 2 to be officially aired in Singapore. And Christmas just indicated that the wait is almost coming to an end.

  37. Waterfall says:

    To DM,

Need more snow from Christmas. =P
