In response, Zero the Penguin has updated Code-Geass.com… I wonder who those mysterious voices belong to… (Maybe you should look for the sauce?)

  7. shiachan says:

yes , who are those fags.

  8. Bridge Bunny says:

    MORE LIEK EUNUCHS, AMIRITE

  9. Soulshift says:

Thanks for reminding me why I hate dubs… The voice actors are all competent, but the translated script is bloody unnatural for an English-speaker to say that it all comes out terrible. Plus, the VAs are all trying too hard to match the Japanese intonations exactly where they should simply be trying to sound natural in English.

  10. AK says:

    Bridge Bunny says: “Singapore accents”

    You sure about that?

  11. Ravage says:

    What…the…hell…
    *Just… WTF…*

  12. Beowulf says:

In my humble opinion, the main problem isn’t the VA’s themselves, but the translations. It just sounds weird for a normal English speaker to say those things in that situation.

With the two languages have absolutely little to nothing in common, they should have gone all out liberal in their translations to get the actual connotations across. IMO, connotation > denotation.

But of course, the problem then comes with stupid English speaking otaku who complain that the “meaning” was lost. Well… guys, some sacrifices have to be made in order for the characters to not sound like people whose 8th language is English.

And lastly, it does indeed sound like pr0n.

  13. jiv says:

I suppouse the simply should have chosen than dialogue for the “audition”, but actually a more “normal” dialogue, like when she says to kyon “it’s classified information”. But actually, i think they are doing a pretty good campaign, making us “choose” the VA. That’s why they keep the voices a secret, i think. Unless they are actually the same actress, or the poll is false :p

  14. tj han says:

Yah, on one hand, people complain when the script is Americanised. Then people complain when it isn’t. Guess what? Nobody really cares about the dub, if you go by the official poll. I pity these VAs.

Btw, the Code Geass Orange seiyuu auditions are quite good. While voice 1 has a stoic feel, voice 2 has a moe attitude, voice 3 is for the fags and voice 4 is manly emo.

  15. Oracle says:

just look on the bright side, at least they’re letting us pick the least horrible one (like there is one) instead of having some random guy screw it up. So its good that they are trying to listen to the opinions of the fans and are willing to changes things within a reasonable limit. At least they let us pick a version instead of ditching us with the worst one.

  16. LianYL says:

You know when people comment without indication, I don’t know whether they are referring to the Mikuru rape sounds or the Orange-kun faggabes.

  17. Sherman, the Ramni says:

    4. Decided.

  18. jiv says:

    oops…
theY simply shouldN’T have chosen thaT dialogue (sorry :p )

  19. kaz3phyrous says:

    wtf!?
    haha…

    @@;

  20. Crest says:

This is just blasphemy to Lulu. god i was weeping over those horrible voices… bless the long sleepless nights i be having thanks to this.

  21. steelbound says:

Does that english Mikuru’s voice sound like Bleach’s Orihime Inoue english voice?

  22. MistaYoH says:

Lol that was pretty funny DM, Zero-kun should congratulate himself for exceeding expectations in finding the voice actors lol

  23. Sailor Enlil says:

Lol! I tried running each of those “audition clips” with the actual scene from the fansubs (about 11 min 43 sec into Episode 3, A.F.K.’s sub). #3 seemed like the best fit for me, followed by #2.

  24. Slayze says:

    The fourth voice sounds… odd.

    Btw, irc.ricon.net.

  25. quigonkenny says:

    on Mikuru-chan:

I think #2 is the best voice, and yes, steelbound, I do believe that is the English voice actress for Orihime (and Eureka 7’s Eureka, who she sounds more like in the clip), Stephanie Sheh. I actually think this is a good sign, because even though they’ve just announced it, they appear to have at least had auditions for the voices, which means the actual DVD releases may be not too far off (I’d guess mid-year).

I do think they could have picked a better example for a Mikuru voice sample, but a good costume-rape receiving voice is very important for the character…

    on Orange-kun:

Too funny! What a great scene! Kudos to the unknown licensor of this anime (I can’t believe people are still fansubbing it, now that it’s licensed ^_^) for picking such a recent and humorous clip to reference, as it shows that they may be even farther along than Bandai and SHnY. Don’t know about their choice of voice actors, though. I don’t know if the accents were Singaporean (hey, aren’t you from Singapore, DM?), but they did kinda have some kind of strong accent. At least it wasn’t French! And their audio balancing needs a little work. The volume on those voices was all over the place!

  26. Bridge Bunny says:

    You sure about that? >>>

I am refering to the Code Geass ones.

  27. AK says:

Oh. Haven’t checked that one out yet.

This time I took the liberty to listen to the voice tracks, in full. I agreem when they try to do it in English, it DOES sound like porn.

  28. Vinland says:

It’s too bad Jason is on vacation. This is just begging for a Dr. Jack post.

#1 is nice because it’s the oldest-sounding voice (Mikuru is a second-year high school student despite her looks and behavior, remember.) She completely blows it when it comes to the porny caterwauling, though.

#2 nails the delivery, but the voice itself is a bit generic and Sheh is kind of overexposed, for good or ill. From what little I know of her, she’s rewritten her dialogue in the past, which is probably a good thing if this clip is any indication. “HOW IN THE WORLD DO I SHOT WEB” image macro in 3… 2…

    I can’t say anything nice about #3.

#4 sounds the youngest, but it’s like Kyon’s Sister young. That’s bad, but the childish petulance of her “I don’t want to” makes me want to hear other samples. And, if she can pull it off, would make the difference between her and Adult Mikuru like that between night and day.

  29. quigonkenny says:

Makes sense. She’s got more script and adaptation credits than voice credits on her ANN page.

  30. exalt dragon says:

I just remembered that i haven’t finished listening to SOS-Dan Radio Shibu Bangai Hen-1 YET… and the first one is the first…DUH..

  31. exalt dragon says:

oops i mean mean the first one is the best… XD

  32. Haesslich says:

#2’s better than #1, if only because #2 doesn’t tear your eardrums out when she does the ‘porny caterwaul’, as someone so eloquently put it. And yes, #4 sounds WAY too young.

Personally, they all annoy me, but I’ll take #2.

  33. Ashram says:

Went with #2 here, stood out pretty easily over the other three to me. Good thing it’s got a massive lead over the other ones too!
